President's Trophy matches shifted out of Peshawar and Abbottabad

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially shifted the ongoing first-class President’s Trophy Grade-1 fixtures out of Peshawar and Abbottabad. The decision comes immediately after the federal government declared a state of emergency and enforced governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following severe political unrest in the region. Strategic Shift in Tournament VenuesThe President’s Trophy Grade-1 tournament had been spread across four cities: Peshawar, Abbottabad, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. While scheduled matches in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will proceed uninterrupted, fixtures assigned to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been promptly reassigned to alternate venues in Punjab: Ghani vs Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy: Shifted from Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium to the Rana Naveed Academy in Sheikhupura, commencing October 14.Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) vs Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL): Shifted from the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium to the LCCA Ground adjacent to Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, starting October 14.Markhor IT Solutions vs Pakistan TV (Final Round): Reallocated to the LCCA Ground in Lahore for the ultimate round of the league phase.Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy vs State Bank of Pakistan (Final Round): Set to take place at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad, complementing the Diamond Club Ground as the active host venues in the capital. To accommodate these administrative updates, the PCB has pushed back the starting date of the final round of matches by one day, moving the start to October 19.Setback for Local Cricket InfrastructureThe relocation marks a significant interruption for regional venues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that had recently rejoined the top tier of domestic cricket. Abbottabad Cricket Stadium has long served as a key venue for domestic multi-day cricket. Meanwhile, Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium had only returned to hosting senior men’s domestic red-ball matches last season after a seven-year gap, following extensive renovations aimed at restoring major cricket events to the city.Earlier this year, Peshawar was earmarked to host its maiden Pakistan Super League (PSL) match after successful hosting trials during the National T20 Cup. However, those plans were previously curtailed when the PCB consolidated PSL venues to Lahore and Karachi in line with federal fuel-conservation measures.Tournament Standings & Qualification OutlookThe President’s Trophy features eight departmental teams playing a single round-robin format, with the top two teams on the points table advancing to the final. State Bank of Pakistan (SBP): Currently leads the table at the top position with 84 points.Ghani: Holds second place with 70 points.Middle Order: Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy, Pakistan TV, Markhor IT Solutions, and OGDCL have each registered one victory so far. Bottom Order: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) and last season’s finalists Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) remain winless heading into the final stages of the round-robin phase. The venue for the final showdown between the top two qualifying sides will be announced by the PCB upon the conclusion of the league stage.
